Jason, I get how you probably like Rob Bell because he's a musician an all that. But Dude… really…he says some pretty scary heretical things. This video is pretty benign, albeit… but he denies Sola Scriptura. pg 68 quote from his book Velvet Elvis”…it wasn't until the 300s that what we know as the sixty-six books of the Bible were actually agreed upon as the 'Bible'. This is part of the problem with continually insisting that one of the absolutes of the Christian faith must be a belief that “Scripture alone” is our guide. It sounds nice, but it is not true.” Not true? Really.
Lady Jane – although I usually strike anonymous comments from my blog – i'll respond to yours with this:
I'm not suggesting that Rob has it all together. I've read most of his books – and there's plenty to disagree with. Sure he's not reformed, and has pretty controversial views on some things.
However, we show clips in church that communicate the true gospel of grace – whether a clip from lord of the rings, apollo 13, 50 first dates, back to the future, or in this case – rob bell. In the case of the former clips – most of the actors in the clips aren't even believers. In this clip Rob is clearly and beautifully presenting the gospel of grace in a very easy to understand illustration – doesn't matter if he thinks it's truth, it IS truth – and worthy of being used as an illustration.

Rob Bell is a musician? Ummm.
Are you sure you're not thinking about Rob Base? Because, while he is not internationally known, he has, indeed, been known to rock the microphone:
“I wanna rock right now. I'm Rob Base and I came to get down… I'm not internationally known, but I'm known to rock the microphone, because I get stupid. I mean outrageous. Stay away from me if you're contagious…”
Anyway, I thought Rob Bell's video was amazing. The guy does on my nerves, but mostly because of his glasses and the fact that he is short. This clip hit home. Hard. And I appreciate(d) it.
We all say and do stuff that could be considered heretical, but that doesn't mean we can't be right sometimes.
If you listen closely, you'll hear that even Rob Base prefers the Whopper over the Big Mac (which is crazy talk), but never a truer statement has been uttered than “it takes two to make a thing go right.”
