Come Ye Sinners . . .

I’m working on an arrangement of a hymn that I may sing for communion on Sunday. maybe.

I’m destroyed by the third verse –

Come ye weary and heavy laden. Lost and ruined, by the fall.
IF YOU TARRY UNTIL YOU’RE BETTER, YOU WILL NEVER COME AT ALL . . .

Wow

  • I don't know. For some reason, there is something about the tempo of the song, the rhythm and melody of the text, and obviously the text itself, thats really makes me feel as though Jesus was standing right in front of me beckoning…

  • I think you're onto something, especially about the appropriateness (is that a word) of the music relating to the text/matching the text . . . Seems to fit better than other versions of the song. Makes the text stand out as more *impactful*

  • Jason,
Get Fernando Ortega's arrangement. It is musically beautiful and has two extra verses not found in hymnal. Those extra two are better than the others. Plus, I've always done the tune with this celtic feel. His is melancholic. Was nice for our Ash Wednesday service, and will be even better on Good Friday.
