Sunday was the 3rd Sunday of Advent - the "shepherd's candle" with which we celebrate the joy the shepherds first experienced when hearing about and witnessing the birth of our Savior. Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – December 10, 2017

Yesterday was our 15th Annual Christmas Worship Service at OMPC.  I don't do a typical morning recap for the service - as it involves narrative, music and video, and takes the whole hour. I'll post videos here at the blog later this week, so be sure and check back, but in the meantime, we had over 180 involved between the choir, band, kids choir and tech team.  Such an awesome privilege to get to serve alongside such dedicated and talented volunteers. Check back soon for videos! Here is the blurb that I published on the back of our program this…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – December 3, 2017

Yesterday (actually Sunday because I'm writing this on Tuesday) was the first Sunday of Advent.  At OMPC we love to sing the traditional Christmas carols - but we also include songs that we normally sing during the year, which in the context of Advent, take on a whole new meaning.  Yesterday we sang a lot about "waiting," which of course reminds us that not only are we celebrating the birth of Christ, but we also wait and long for His return, coming in the clouds. We opened with Heaven and Earth (but just as a side note - i don't sing…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – November 26, 2017

We're wrapping up the year rapidly, as last Sunday was "thanksgiving sunday."  This is one of the few years that the Sunday after thanksgiving isn't also the first sunday of Advent.  The last time it happened was 2006 and the next time won't be until 2022!  So we haven't officially kicked off the Advent season yet, but will do so this coming Sunday - December 3. We opened yesterday with Here For You. After our call to worship we sang Lay Me Down, The Solid Rock, What a Beautiful Name, and To Him Our offering song was Ho   w Can it Be? (i figured…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – November 19, 2017

I was out of town yesterday as my family and I spend some time away before the Advent season.  Jeff Sauceda filled in for worship leadership at OMPC, and always does such a great job!   They opened yesterday with Come Thou Fount After the call to worship they sang Awesome is the Lord Most High, Let God Arise, I Lift My Hands, and Jesus Only Jesus The offering song was a new tune (to OMPC) from Tomlin called All the Way My Savior Leads Me. As always, it's never too late to join us for choir!  We don't meet this week but will resume…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – November 12, 2017

Yesterday was a bit different from our norm at OMPC as we had the author of the BlueBook - Jim Branch with us for an "interview" of sorts from our Sr Pastor.  We got to hear from him about his heart for writing the book and deepening his personal walk with Christ. Our worship set was dramatically shorter as we wanted to make sure to allow enough time for Jim and communion, so we only had 4 tunes. We opened yesterday with Our God Saves After our call to worship we sang Hosanna (Praise is Rising), Fairest Lord Jesus and 10,000 Reasons The…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – November 5, 2017

We had a wonderful crisp fall day yesterday here in Alabama - high humidity and temps in the 80's.  Nothing says fall like running in shorts and a t-shirt.  We're also drawing near to the close of our year-long sermon series on the #BlueBook - written by Jim Branch.  Yesterday's theme was "broken" and so our worship set was designed to remind us that in our brokenness it is God's faithfulness that we cling to. We opened with Glorious Day - a relatively new song from Passion in Atlanta. After our call to worship we sang Forever (and may or may not…
