I was out this past Sunday.Mark Clement led for me - and Bob continued his Lenten sermon series. This week - PS 23.They opened with Famous One.After the call to worship they sang I Am Free, You Are My Strength, Jesus Paid it All, and How Great is Our God.We had the privilege of having some ladies from the Lovelady Center with us in worship. I'm pleased to offer a review of a brand-new LIVE worship album from Oaks Worship in Dallas, TX. The album, titled Lift up the LIght, features the worship teams from Oaks Worship, joined by Bethany Dillon, and Shane and Shane.What a great, refreshing worship album. Abandoning tricks and gimmicks, this new record offers the listener a peek into the night of the recording. Yesterday was the 3rd Sunday of Lent. Bob came up with a great acrostic - LENT - Let Everyone Now Turn. Lent ends up being a sweet time in my life - of trying to strip away all that i get distracted with - and focus back on Christ, for my sufficiency, sustenance, identity... We opened yesterday with a tune I wrote called Let Us Return. I was out of town on Sunday, and Oak Mountain had the privilege to be lead by Jenny Pruitt. She does a tremendous job - and it's great to have folks like her that so easily and flawlessly step into place.On Sunday, they opened with Beautiful One.After the call to worship they sang Sing to the King, Our God Saves, Before the Throne of God Above, and Hungry.The offering song was a new song from Jenny called Faithful and Amazing Love. She'll have an opportunity to share it again soon at our first ever Artists Creating in Community sharing event.

Thoughts on Lent… (again)

(i was going to write a post for Lent, but then I read what I wrote last year - and I've got nothing new to add)I grew up Catholic . . . left that church when I was 16 and started attending the Southern Baptist church across town. I had conscientious objections to what they [the church] was teaching regarding the sacrament of the lord's supper, and confession, and found those teachings contrary to what I read and believe that Scripture teaches.Having said that - i would, almost every year, participate in the season of Lent by "giving up something"…

Only had one service yesterday, and it was quite the service - probably one of the biggest technical failures we've ever had, and we're still unsure of what happened. The only PC that the worship ministry uses sits in the booth and runs songshowplus - but that may be changing soon. Anyway - it was a great morning, and there was great laughter; what a great church!
