Monday Morning Recap for Sunday February 7, 2010

We had quite the busy morning yesterday. The only thing we didn't do in the worship was celebrate the Lord's Supper - which we do next week - 2/14. You can find Bob's questions to prepare right here.We opened with a new song off the Glory Revealed 2 CD called Rejoice in the Lord. After our call to worship, we sang O 4 a 1000 tongues, quite a bit quicker than "usual" with the David Crowder Chorus. I really think that it brought new life to the song - and the congregation seemed to respond well. We also sang Not to…

Our Edit from the 80 this morning

In the realm of the ridiculous - we decided to edit this from the 80 this morning, because a good joke isn't followed with the words "get it?"Anyway - the IN EFF EL has had some pretty interesting things to say to churches that want to have parties showing a particular famous football event and even having people over to your house can cause attention from the pro-football organization. Even broadcasters have been limited in what they are allowed to say . . . And you'll find many articles that tell churches that they're not even allowed to say the…

Worship Leader Lessons #11

I haven't posted one of these up in a while. Christmas happened. When Christmas happens in a worship leader's life, everything else stops except for what you're doing with Christmas. Anyway . . . back to it.You CAN'T change people's hearts. This was a tough one to learn. Before coming to Oak Mountain, i worked at a small church in Newnan, GA. I was just remarking to a friend that church plants should be a required part of the resume of a church staff member - especially at large churches like Oak Mountain.I would really struggle with some folks and heart…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday January 31, 2010

Yesterday marked the beginning of our 2010 Global Missions Conference. Lots of missionaries on campus this week - displaying their cultural and ministerial wares and allowing us to actively engage in their overseas ministries through prayer, financial support, and hopefully for some - a commitment to long-term missionary status.Yesterday we opened our service with Awesome is the Lord Most High. After our call to worship we sang Arise, Immortal Invisible, The Solid Rock, and You Never Let Go.We didn't sing an offering song this week - as we had quite a few things going on during the service, including some missionaries…

Why I Quit Twitter

I was leading and speaking at a conference for church planters this past week. One night - at about 3:30AM, I woke up, and flipped and flopped for the rest of the night, not getting a wink of sleep before the busiest day of the week. I was thinking about what I will now refer to as the ridiculousness of Twitter . . . My job - one that I was actually teaching others to do - is to lead God's people in worship, and to lead a ministry full of people into a relationship with their Father and each other…

Global Church Advancement Conference

I'm speaking on worship and leading worship at the 2010 Global Advancement Conference in Orlando. It's going on all week. I'll probably write more on it later - but here are some thoughts that struck me:1. There's no flashyness. Yeah, that's right. These folks are able to learn some church-planting principles without cool videos, graphics, and state of the art technology. Having said that, I wonder how church planters would react to a conference designed to train and equip them that was over-the-top flashy. Great videos, moving lighting, huge sound systems. How does that properly set a planter's mind, when…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday January 24, 2010

We had a great time of worship yesterday morning. The choir sang - and I really enjoy choir Sundays. The more people that we can get involved in leading God's people in worship, the better - We opened with a new song called What a Savior. After our call to worship we sang Amazing God, Everlasting God, Amazing Grace (Chains are Gone), and Your Name (Baloche). Our offering followed immediately with Revelation Song - with the choir and Lauren Roberts. We also heard the now 3-year-old recording of Drake reading about heaven. You can hear it on the side-bar of…

Monday Morning Recap for Sunday January 17, 2KX

The power went out - The 9:00 service didn't get to see the 80, or the video clip that we had put together to lead into the sermon re: Haiti . . . Carlee did a bang-up job filling the room with vocals on the offering song, without mic, and in a room that's been designed to acoustically support a sound system, and not unamplified vocals and Bob screamed his way through his 9:00 sermon. The power came back on at 10:20 in time for us to get the technical systems back up for the 10:30 service. It was a…
