Lent begins tomorrow . . .

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Growing up Catholic, I would give up something for the 40 days before Easter - and mostly did it because it was what you did when you grew up Catholic - but this year, i'm giving something up, and the Sears family is also giving something up - as a daily reminder of the sacrifice, and a preparation for the celebration of Easter Sunday. Why 40 days? The 40 days of Lent echo the period of withdrawal of Jesus into the wilderness. The number 40 has several other Biblical references:…

Monday morning recap for Sunday – Feb. 22, 2009

This week we opened with "Amazing God" which is a song by Brenton Brown that we sang for offering last week. Great tune. The CHOIR will be singing it again this week to open the service.After our call to worship, we sang "You Are Worthy of My Praise," but it was a completely different feel - set to a rip-off of "Clocks" by Coldplay.We followed that with The Solid Rock, Enough (recorded by Chris Tomlin), Grace That is Greater Than All Our Sin, and You Gave Your Life Away (by Paul Baloche). Tuesday nights in the spring . . .

I LOVE Tuesday nights in the spring. Scrubs come on ABC.There's this other show that a lot of America is obsessed with. And it's ON right now on our TV. The "singing" that they give us on this show makes me SO thankful for the talent that we have at Oak Mountain. I have some of the BEST vocalists and instrumentalists in the country - and I'm not just saying that. Shows like American Trashy-Vocals really make me thankful for the talent God has brought to Oak Mountain.

Facebook has stirred up some sharp feelings because they've updated their terms of use as of the beginning of this month to say that anything you post is now "theirs" to keep or use, or sell - even if you cancel your account.Bottom line . . . don't put anything on the internet that you don't want for public consumption. Your "friends" on facebook can download your pics onto their computers, can save your messages, etc . . . Facebook is just stating the obvious.
