Monday Morning Recap for Sunday – March 8, 2015

We continued with our Lenten season worship yesterday.  It's so good to at least consider the idea of slowing down and reflecting on the cross, spending time in repentance....One of our tunes from yesterday had the line "the dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away."  It's so important that we realize, as we come to the cross through humility and repentance that we are JUST as vile as the thief on the cross.  Not worse off, nor any better - but just as vile.…

Where else are you worshipping?

I’ve got a good friend who, when he preaches, usually includes a prayer that asks for us to have service of worship as opposed to worship services. It sounds like semantics, but there’s a unique beauty in the distinction. It’s so easy for us to think of worship as something we go “do” on Sunday morning. But as we look for the new Heaven on Earth, our reality can become more and more that LIFE is worship, and that we are serving as an act of worship. I’m often asked what my favorite part of being a worship leader is. My thoughts on Lent

Lent starts today (Ash Wednesday).  Lent - in the traditional church is 40 days and nights before Easter, not including Sundays.  It's a time for reflection, sacrifice, and lament over Christ's death.  It doesn't include Sundays, because of the reality that Christ HAS risen, and HAS redeemed us from our punishment of eternal separation from God.Being raised Catholic - it was tradition to "give up" something for lent.  It was something done out of a sense of legalism - you do this, because this is what you do for lent....When i left the Catholic church - i abandoned "giving something…
