We had a choir Sunday yesterday, AND we're already at the end of January.  Hard to believe.We're continuing preparations for our "not really palm sunday" worship service - set for March 10, as Palm Sunday is in the midst of Alabama's spring break.We opened yesterday with I Am Free.After our call to worship we sang Hosanna, Everlasting God (with the Anthony Evans OH), Praise to the Lord the Almighty, and 10,000 Reasons.Our offering song was Waiting Here for You - just an fantastic tune.

Yesterday was a morning/worship set for considering our position/posture in worship - as Bob's been preaching through the first few verses of 1 Peter the past few weeks - I'm reminded of how without God acting is us first - we don't possess the ability to sing His praise… HE lifted us out, HE sets our feet, HE tunes our hearts, HE leads us…We opened yesterday with Arise and Sing - a new-ish song from Brenton Brown that also has the same intro as Journey's Faithfully.After our call to worship we sang You Lifted Me Out, Surrender, and Lead Me to…

We've done a variation of the same Christmas Eve service since I've been here, which was Christmas 2003.  The Means family has blessed us every year by leading the service…We opened the 5:00 service with a time of carol singing for about 15 minutes prior. Yesterday was the 2nd Sunday of Advent - the Bethlehem candle on the traditional Advent Calendar…We opened yesterday with All Because of Jesus.After our call to worship we sang  Sing to the King, O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and You Alone Can Rescue.I was struck by the last verse in O Little Town - "cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today" and how well it fits with the opening line for You Alone Can Rescue - "who, Oh Lord, can save themselves, their own souls could heal…"For our offering song, Lauren…

I love the Advent/Christmas season.  One thing I love doing as a worship leader is taking songs that we sing during the rest of the year - and putting them into the Christmas context, flanked by a few carols that are essentially singing/saying the same thing.  Just simply altering our context a little bit can change the way we view the most common of praise texts.We opened yesterday with That's Why We Praise Him - a Tommy Walker song that I don't think we've done for about 5 years - but says it perfectly.After our call to worship we sang Hosanna,…
