Worship Leader Lessons #13

Don't wait for Atlanta to tell you what songs you need to be doing. You know the stories - those (worship leaders) that anxiously await the latest CD from [insert name of artist here]. And they might be in Atlanta, or Nashville, or Australia . . . and immediately download the charts, get their guitarists a new pedal, and try to emulate the exact sound and feel of the entire disc. Problem is, they're forgetting to attention to whether or not those songs are singing the soundtrack of their church, their congregation. Remember - it's so easy to assume that everyone…

Our #2 turns 5 today. He was born here in Birmingham at Brookwood, and delivered by the best OB in Birmingham - before she moved to St Vincent's (we followed her there for our #3).Anyway - Drew turns 5 today. These are a few pics that were taken at the beginning of the school year LAST year - apparently they were bringing the kids out into the hall - and standing them in front of the flowers, and saying "one, two, three " . . . but whenever they got to "three" drew would strike a pose - and so we…

You can get the rest of them here.Do you practice? When i graduated from Samford in '98, I could play my scales and arpeggios at 132 (that'll only mean something to a small few of you). Now, I can play them at about 120 - but I still find myself having to not only practice, but take time to learn new technique, new chords, new styles on the piano.Vocally it's the same drill. Are you showing up on Sunday mornings expecting to pop out the same notes you did last week -…

Your kids NEED to be in children's choir

Notice i didn't say "should" or "might want to think about."If you've got kids - and they are ages K4-6th grade, they NEED to be in kids choir. Kids choir meets every Sunday night (following the LIFE group schedule) at 4:30. We have separate choirs for K4 and K5 - and the larger group (1st-6th grade) also splits up during rehearsal, but comes together for the musical. Why do I say they NEED to be in kids choir? Music develops the brain. Unlike sports, reading, writing, TV, or really any other activity - music develops areas of the brain that aren't…
