Monday morning Recap for Sunday – June 20. 2010

Great time of worship yesterday morning. The choir was singing. It was Father's Day. Great, great morning. We opened yesterday with a rather slow, mellow ballad from Israel Houghton called Say So. :)After our call to worship we sang Because of Your Love, O Worship the King, Everlasting God, and Revelation Song. Our offering song was God You Reign - a Lincoln Brewster song that we first did during our Palm Sunday Spectacular. We did a different arrangement of Everlasting God - one that I heard Anthony Evans do last year at the National Worship Leader Conference - it's got a bit more…

My NICU baby turns 9 today

I posted Drake's story last year. I'm gonna post it again. He was born at 6:01, on a Friday - June 15, 2001. This was after 30 hours of labor, 3 doctors, 5 nurses . . . and then she pushed for 3 hours. They were about ready to do a C-section when the doc saw the head.He came out grey . . . and not breathing. Mandy's uterus wasn't clamping back down, and she was losing so much blood that they were going to transfuse her. They hit the red button on the wall, and my parents, and brothers and…

Being away from Oak Mtn - even for a couple days, always makes me fond of the people and the community when i return. Yesterday was no exception. It's honestly hard to believe it's already June. Before you know it, we'll have the wreaths hung above the stage again . . . Anyway - Bob continues his series on revival. Let me encourage you to get the sermon downloads from iTunes. We opened last week with Awake My Soul, a tune I wrote when i was a part of a hymn rewriting group a few years ago. After our call to worship we sang Filled With Your Glory, What a Savior, Search Me (Ronnie Freeman), Surrender (Brewster), and Jesus Paid it All (Stanfill). Our offering song was another…

Len Sweet "Faithful Till He Comes"

I've heard Len Sweet speak so many times - and have read quite a few of his books. I find his thoughts challenging, insightful . . . http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=12266849&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1

Monday morning Recap for Sunday – May 30, 2010

Heath and Justin Hale led worship for us last weekend - did a tremendous job! I was down at Gulf Shores with our singles' group, leading worship for their retreat. We've got a great group of singles - and i think it's awesome that they would set aside time at the beach to spend in worship, prayer, and study.Back here - the Hale's opened with Amazing God.After the call to worship they sang Prince of Peace, Come Ye Sinners, Give Us Clean Hands, and I Stand Amazed. For the offering song - they sang How Deep the Father's Love. Our new summer…

Monday morning Recap for Sunday – May 23, 2010

Greetings blog-readers . . . Yesterday was a choir Sunday. Choir takes a break now - but only for two weeks, and resumes rehearsals on June 9 as we prepare to lead in worship on June 20. we opened yesterday with You Lifted Me Out (Tomlin, and a bunch of other people). My opening encouragement yesterday was that as we sang the songs that we know well - to consider the text of the tunes, in light of Pentecost Sunday, and how they take on a whole new meaning, or bent, or angle. Pretty cool. After our call to worship…

Monday morning Recap for Sunday – May 16, 2010

The Kids led in worship yesterday. As Bob put it - the kids have a way of leading us to more uninhibited worship - and we presbyterians could stand a bit more of that. I will say that i was astounded by how many fists I saw in the air during the chorus of "let the praises ring."For those interested - yesterday's team consisted of a full band (from my normal teams), a youth trio (made up of the youth that work with our kids on Sunday mornings), a 6-voice kids praise team, and 58 kids (78 during 2nd service)…
