Monday morning Recap for Sunday – June 27, 2010

We had a great morning of worship at Oak Mtn - Mark Clement led for me. Mark has become a good friend over the last year - and did a tremendous job - i look forward to having him lead again in the future. They opened this weekend with P Baloche's Hosanna. After the call to worship they sang I am Free, Awesome is the Lord Most High, a new tune (to oak mountain) called You Are My Strength, and closed with How Great is our God. The offering song was Awakening. Remember - for next weekend - july 4,…

I don't do auditions

I read an article today, in one of the magazines that comes to my office every month. It was written by a guy i respect - and have studied, and have read - and the title of it was "letting volunteers go." The premise of the article was answering a "question" from a reader about how to let a volunteer go - one that has been involved in the ministry for years, simply because they weren't a solo-quality voice.I'd offer a different perspective.I'm grieved at the thought that was would use "distraction" or "not-as-skilled" to justify excluding someone from worship…

My NICU baby turns 9 today

I posted Drake's story last year. I'm gonna post it again. He was born at 6:01, on a Friday - June 15, 2001. This was after 30 hours of labor, 3 doctors, 5 nurses . . . and then she pushed for 3 hours. They were about ready to do a C-section when the doc saw the head.He came out grey . . . and not breathing. Mandy's uterus wasn't clamping back down, and she was losing so much blood that they were going to transfuse her. They hit the red button on the wall, and my parents, and brothers and…

Heath and Justin Hale led worship for us last weekend - did a tremendous job! I was down at Gulf Shores with our singles' group, leading worship for their retreat. Monday morning Recap for Sunday – May 23, 2010

Greetings blog-readers . . . Yesterday was a choir Sunday. Choir takes a break now - but only for two weeks, and resumes rehearsals on June 9 as we prepare to lead in worship on June 20. we opened yesterday with You Lifted Me Out (Tomlin, and a bunch of other people). My opening encouragement yesterday was that as we sang the songs that we know well - to consider the text of the tunes, in light of Pentecost Sunday, and how they take on a whole new meaning, or bent, or angle. Pretty cool. After our call to worship…
