Oh ME of little faith . . .

I'm reading the Bible this year according to this Bible reading plan which is great - as it has a passage from the OT, a psalm, a gospel reading, and a reading from Acts - and progressing forward. Last year it was the Daily Bible - which was nice, but it goes in chronological order, and this different plan offers a bit of variety in the readings.Anyway - i was struck by a passage in Matthew the other day - Jesus was walking on water. Cool. The disciples were out on the boat, and the wind picked up, and they…

A few new songs

I'm going to try to start keeping a more comprehensive list of new tunes that we add to the repertoire at Oak Mountain.Check out "Amazing God" by Brenton Brown. We're going to introduce it in the next few weeks. Our choir is singing "Lord I Run to You" by Tommy Walker this week - it's off of one of his old albums. If you're reading this and looking for new stuff, Tommy has just recently signed with Integrity, thus reaping the benefits of their distribution network. His older stuff is awesome. Check it out. One of his best older albums is…

Hillsong Kids

We use some Hillsong Kids tunes for our Children's Worship program at church. They're very well done - engaging for the kids, and communicate worship truths. Needless to say, they get played quite a bit in the Sears home, and my oldest decided to do his own promo for them . . . I'm almost positive this was unsolicited!http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAABqQx1oQmSnIaATdhug8I962XbxEmedcyG6R_eLWYLt5_PvTvgbU_vyRv9bZRRt2jwxTIZ8wKHic0nRWnDx4vFqZ8CXhTyM8ndpmAA5B47yd5Hd_KgGAV-GneSV8n5tETz1d4FExEqkzJo8F1K8YP6rAf3gU9E8eS0xv3bzJhRNOhzw0DZVTSNO792tZmc0exC-_19bgOE88-OLXVvYFud9sVYip46vpBlnGITIOZOFC%26sigh%3DgbtE-HbMQpsh5W-u9CzJoY5LytE%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&nogvlm=1&thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Db78058adcbcd3b18%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3Duqb_MCmg6lZFXBkRKFFLWdr3SJw&messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den

What if we did this for a worship service

This guy Mark Johnson travelled around the globe and recorded different folks singing and playing the same tune - then edited it together for this film. What if we could do this realtime for a worship service - have a few different countries, all playing the same song, piped together on some fiber network, broadcast to the nations . . . hmm.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us-TVg40ExM&hl=en&fs=1]

Amazing Grace

We had a good moment in choir last night, as we're preparing for our Palm Sunday worship service. We were rehearsing the song "Amazing Grace/My Chains are gone." Great tune. We were rehearsing the unison section of the 1st first - I once was blind, but now I see . . . saved a wretch like me . . . Some of us grew up singing those same words, and it seems like every pop star and even American Idol has their own version of the song. And we often think about our salvation when we read or sing those…

You know you've made it when . . .

My friend Aaron Shust (and he really is my friend - not just one of those guys that I shook hands with one time. We used to work together) has a very popular song in the CCM world called My Savior, My God. It's based on the hymn "I Am Not Skilled to Understand." You can look it up in the hymnal - it really is there.Anyway, I get these CD's about 10 times a year, produced by a group called "Song Discovery" that have their best guess as to the latest and greatest worship songs. I opened up my…
