Yesterday was pretty cool - we introduced Don Sellers - our new Director of Mercy for OMPC, and the current Sr Pastor of South Park Baptist.  Don's congregation was also kind enough to join us for worship - and we were certainly honored by their presence. Great to be back at OMPC after taking some vacation last week!  We continued this week with our BlueBook series and the week's theme was "becoming."  Our worship set was filled with texts that turned our gaze to Christ, fixing our eyes on Him. We opened yesterday with Glorious Day - a new tune from the Passion folks over in Atlanta. Micah McElveen from Vapor Ministries preached yesterday at OMPC.  Great guy with a tremendous passion for the impoverished, and a great vision for reaching the ends of the earth.  We continued our BlueBook themes this week with "Letting Go."  The illustration I used as we intro'd the "song of the week" was that of letting go those things that we cling to so tightly.  Much like a two-year-old, grasping and obsessing over whatever toy they're playing with, until a parents walks into the room - where the kid drops the toy, throws his arms in the air in surrender... letting…

Bob was out yesterday and Tom Patton brought our message following along in the BlueBook series with Holiness. We opened with a tune that Jeff Sauceda has introduced the last couple times he's led called Psalm 100 After our call to worship we sang Your Grace is Enough, Jesus Only Jesus, 10,000 Reasons, and Holy Holy Holy - which is also the #BlueBook song of the week. Our offering song was a new (to OMPC) tune called What a Beautiful Name by Hillsong.

Yesterday's service gave us the opportunity to be reminded of the sustaining, life-giving breath of God.  Our time in worship reflected on the importance of His breath empowering every part of our being, and reminded us of our desperation for His very breath to always be moving, working, and breathing within us. We opened yesterday with All Because of Jesus. After our call to worship we sang Hosanna, Breathe on Me Breath of God, Breathe, and O Come to the Altar. Our offering song was Great Are You Lord (from All Sons and Daughters), and our communion tune was Breathe In Me, from Michael W Smith.

It was great to be back at OMPC yesterday after a Sunday away on vacation.  We continued in our Blue Book series with "Following and Being Led." Our worship set was designed around the theme of whole-hearted devotion, sacrifice and surrender.  For me, a key verse for surrender is always found in the 3rd verse of O Worship the King - "Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in You do we trust, nor find you to fail..." I'm always forgetting that I am that frail child of dust - my trust is too often in what I'm able…

Bob was back in the pulpit yesterday as we continued our series in the Blue Book Devotional.  Yesterday's theme was "Loved By God" - which paired so nicely with some great tunes that remind us of God's love for us... Our kids led in worship yesterday, as has become tradition here at OMPC, especially for Mother's Day.  Always great to be led by the kids - they're such a wonderful reminder of our posture/position in worship.  Their often uninhibited freedom is enviable, as they haven't lost the desire to use their bodies, arms, and hands in worship. Hard to believe we're already into May - next Sunday is Mother's Day, and the kids will be leading us in worship.  Love it when the kids lead in worship - almost as much as I love choir Sundays - of which, yesterday was one.  Love our choir at OMPC - and yesterday was a rare "show up and sing" Sunday, as we had no official rehearsals beforehand.  Almost impossible to get folks out for rehearsals in May, as school years are winding down, business trips and ball clubs are winding up, and folks are longing for summer....
