Two recaps today - one for our Christmas Eve service - and one for yesterday - Sunday the 26th.Our Christmas Eve service has developed into quite the tradition. This was my 8th Christmas at Oak Mountain, and I've tried to instill some sort of "traditional" songs for oak mountain, during Christmas Eve. Having said that, much of our programming is the same, with just a few variations. We have, since i've been here, had two services. Yesterday marked the 1st Sunday of Advent. In the liturgical calendar - it's the Prophet Candle - "the anticipation of christ." The songs was sang yesterday all pointed us to the expectation of Christ's coming/Christ's return. We opened with Let God Arise. After our call to worship we sang Hosanna, Your Grace is Enough, Our God Saves, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, and Never Let Go. Our offering song was a killer tune called Light of the World.

We celebrated Christ the King Sunday yesterday - traditionally part of the liturgical calendar, and recognized as the Sunday prior to Advent starting. Generally a celebration of Christ's 2nd Advent - the waiting on Him to come again . . . We opened yesterday with a tune I wrote with Billy Ivey called I Will Sing.After our call to worship we sang Sing to the King, Not to Us, Center, Recoice the Lord is King, Before the Throne of God Above, and Agnus Dei. Choir led in worship last weekend. That wraps our final "regular" service led by the choir for the year. The choir is continuing to prepare for "Rescue" - our Christmas worship service which will be Sunday December 12, 2010 at both services.We opened last week with All Who Are Thirsty.After our call to worship we sang Jesus Shall Reign, Awesome is the Lord Most High, God of This City, and When All is Said and Done.Our offering song was Do It Lord.

Better late than never. We wrapped up our stewardship series this past sunday. For those of you uncomfortable talking about money - we're done now . . . We opened last Sunday with Famous One.After our call to worship we sang All Because of Jesus, Forever, Enough, Heart of Worship, and Be Thou My Vision. Our offering song was Tomlin's version of Take My Life.Our pledge offering song was Lay it Down, by Dave Lubben.Choir sings this coming Sunday. Christmas will be here before you know it!

Yesterday was home missions sunday. We got to hear from our domestic missionaries in our Sunday School classes - and celebrated having planted a church last year. Communion service yesterday. Bob finishing the Gospel-Insertion point of the Gospel Pipeline series. Next week is Home Missions Sunday. We opened yesterday with a new song called I Will Sing. Straight out of the psalms - a great reminder of the exhortations in Scripture related to our posture in worship.
